Indian Chief Still Smokin'
24th May 2010
Darren Drew's Indian Chief continued in her domination of the multihull racing circuit in Sydney with a line honours win in the two handed Pittwater to Newcastle Race on the weekend.
The race was sailed in a fresh South Easterly giving Indian Chief the opportunity to break the existing record which was established by Darren and Gary Martin five years ago on Flat Chat.
However a shattered headboard car forced Darren and Crew to sail the second half of the race under screecher alone, yet they still finished only three minutes and forty five seconds outside the record and averaged 13.6 knots for the course.
The closest competitor was the all carbon Sayer 40, Wasabi, a little over and hour behind Indian Chief.
Apologies if you were wondering what the photo of Flat Chat was doing in this news item (she's now in New Zealand), but Indian Chief has been featured a lot in recent news updates and we've used the reference to Flat Chat above as good enough reason to feature one of our all time favourite designs.
